Djokovic and Kvitova Favourites for 2012 Australian Open
Novak Djokovic and Petra Kvitova have been installed as favourites to win the Men’s and Women’s Singles at the 2012 Australian Open.Djokovic is the reigning champion and will be hoping to begin 2012 where 2011 finished with another major tournament win. Djokovic has been listed at 11/10 with BetVictor to win this year’s Australian Open to retain his title and after he won three of the four major tournaments last year he is the firm favourite to continue his rich vein of form.His close rivals are Roger Federer , Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal . BC Holding Responsible Gambling Awareness Week
British Columbia will be holding its very first Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, beginning on January 14th. The campaign will be held in Vernon, BC and will run until January 20th, 2012.
According to the organizers of the Responsible Gambling Awareness Week, their goal is to raise awareness of responsible gambling practices in the province and across Canada, and, if necessary, to connect problem gamblers with community services and support groups.
Speaking for the Social Planning Council, Annette Sharkey said that the community needs to educate people on how to gamble responsibly.
Seizing of Illegal Gambling Premises by Malaysian Police
This year, Police in the Sabah Province of Malaysia has engaged them in seizing approximately 574 computers and gambling machines from approximately 63 premises of Malaysia, where gambling activity has been conducted illegally. ACP Rowell, Chief of District police commented, “We have also arrested 67 people during our further investigations, regarding these cases”. He further stated that at present, 51 police officers had simultaneously raided nine premises of illegal gambling at night and seized approximately 205 gambling machines and computers there. Online poker stars forced into Canada and other countries following the fallout of Black Friday may be encouraged to settle down for the long term.That is after a leading casino boss in the US spoke out against the legalization of online gambling in the States.Indeed, Sheldon Adelson, chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands, has claimed that current technology is not sophisticated enough to ensure minors cannot access the online gaming world.Frank Fahrenkopf, the American Gaming Associations (AGA) president and chief executive officer, claims that in a recent conversation Adelson was steadfast in his opposition to the legalization of US online poker.”Sheldon has long had concerns about this issue, and it is perfectly within his right to make this decision,” he said.”However, the AGA, at the direction of our board of directors, will continue to support federal legislation to allow states to license and regulate online poker.”
