Casino Boss Opposes Online Gambling

Online poker stars forced into Canada and other countries following the fallout of Black Friday may be encouraged to settle down for the long term.That is after a leading casino boss in the US spoke out against the legalization of online gambling in the States.Indeed, Sheldon Adelson, chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands, has claimed that current technology is not sophisticated enough to ensure minors cannot access the online gaming world.Frank Fahrenkopf, the American Gaming Associations (AGA) president and chief executive officer, claims that in a recent conversation Adelson was steadfast in his opposition to the legalization of US online poker.”Sheldon has long had concerns about this issue, and it is perfectly within his right to make this decision,” he said.”However, the AGA, at the direction of our board of directors, will continue to support federal legislation to allow states to license and regulate online poker.”  

Second French WSOP Winner

Hot on the heels of his countryman ElkY yet another French poker pro has won a WSOP event. World Series of Poker Event 22 went to Elie Payan. Payan beat out 1071 players, the largest field ever for a pot-limit Omaha tournament, in order to win his $292,825. Payan is a project manager from Orleans, France, and is 27 years old. The $1,500 pot-limit Omaha Event 22 was the first WSOP victory for the man who goes by “Punisher934″ when playing online – and the first WSOP event hed ever played.

China’s Sha Jun Moves Second in APPT Macau Day 1b

China’s Sha Jun ended Day 1b of the PokerStars.net Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Macau main event as chip leader on 169,400, although that was only good enough to place him second overall behind Day 1a leader Shih Chieh Su, of Chinese Taipei.

Su sits in pole position ahead of tomorrow’s Day 2 at Casino Grand Lisboa on 171,800 chips, while the top five is completed by New Zealand’s Daniel Francis (154,100), Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang (154,100), of Singapore, and Chinese Taipei’s Carlos Chang (148,900).

A second Team PokerStars pro Jose ‘Nacho’ Barbero, from Argentina, is down in 31st place on 108,300, while Macau PokerStars qualifier Erdenebold Begzjav, of Mongolia, is ninth on 142,100.

Phil Ivey returns to poker at APT Macau

It’s no surprise that Phil Ivey’s first poker tournament since Black Friday would take place at the APT Macau, since the big games that have historically sprung up around the tournament have seen some of the biggest pots in the history of the game, and attracts some biggest names in poker and the business world.
