Problems plague L.V. team on Season 19 debut of The Amazing Race

Nightclub beauties Kaylani Paliotta and Lisa Tilley wished for hometown Las Vegas luck last night on the debut episode of Season 19 of The Amazing Race on CBS. Right out of the starting block, Kaylani lost her passport that threatened the challenges and travels of the first leg of competition.

The Emmy Award-winning program has 11 teams, and somehow as if Lady Luck smiled down on them, Kaylani and Lisa managed to find the passport and overcome other difficulties — and at the last minute came in ninth.

This season’s competitors are Olympic snowboarders, Survivor winners, record-setting yachtsmen, plus an engaged couple, brother and sister twins, married grandparents, a dating duo, a gay couple, an NFL husband and wife and our Las Vegas showgirls turned cocktail servers.

Kaylani and Lisa began, like the others, in cars headed for Taipei, Taiwan, after being last to solve a word puzzle hidden in an umbrella. Filling up at a gas station, Kaylani’s passport fell from her pocket and she unknowingly left it when they roared off. They returned when they discovered it missing and got into an argument that they’d lost the show before it really started. That won them the Hazard penalty.

Eventually, they rediscovered it in time to make the plane to Taipei and track down the Confucius Temple, but wound up lost with the twins before solving another clue. Kaylani redeemed herself instantly solving a confusing phone message challenge.

To further win back Lisa’s support, Kaylani bungee jumped in the center of a shopping mall for the Hazard penalty. The cocktail servers were back as best buddies — the feud was over — and the race was on again.

Eventually, they came all the way from behind and wound up ninth of the 11 teams. Nobody was eliminated last night, but our two hometown heroines are dangerously close to next Sunday’s first elimination round when two teams will be axed.

Vegas DeLuxe will track their adventures and the results each Monday.
